Match Report: Yorkshire Post: 12th January 1920:

CHESTERFIELD MUNICIPAL v LEEDS UNITED.

Leeds United were distinctly unlucky, unfortunately losing by the odd goal for they were always in the game and played an admirable passing game. Unfortunately, it was due to Fletcher's shot cannoning off the Leeds defender Dodsworth and into the the Leeds goal. Mason (outside right) and Birtles (Centre Forward) were the pick of the visitors forwards and the defence did their best to contain the excellent work of the under-par home forwards, whose work was ragged. The Chesterfield scorers were Moffatt, Dodsworth (own goal), and Fletcher, who gave the home team a 3-0 lead. White scored twice for Leeds in four minutes, after the restart and McPherson added his team's fourth in the second half before Birtles scored the third for Leeds.

Half-time score :-

Chesterfield Municipal 3 goals Leeds United 0 goal

RESULT:- CHESTERFIELD MUNICIPAL 4 goals LEEDS UNITED 3 goals

Further notes from Sheffield newspapers: The Chesterfield Municipal forwards, particularly Holt, were below par. While Fletcher was the mainspring of the half-back line but Saxby at left-back was disappointing. The attendance was 3,200 and receipts £170.
